The United Nations consider there to be no immediate threat to security. It is not "first contact." The signals were not beamed at us intentionally, we picked them up by chance.
"These aliens have no idea that we even exist," said Professor Grenfell.
The alien world is far away in a remote corner of the galaxy we share.
It as remote from other more likely centres of life as our own Earth, obscure on the periphery of a another minor spiral arm of the Milky Way.
The alien world is very much like our own. The inhabitants there also look towards the stars and wonder if they are alone.
Professor Grenfell believes it is very unlikely that the aliens will ever make direct contact with us.
She is adamant that the distances are just too great to travel.
She said, ¨They have no idea we're here, and how can they? It has taken 2000 years for these radio broadcasts to reach Earth, indirectly, by accident.¨
Humans on Earth have been broadcasting radio signals for about eighty years. It will take nearly 2000 years for our radio signals to reach the alien world, if at all.
The evidence suggests that the inhabitants of this far away world possessed radio broadcast and space satellite technology at least 2000 years ago.
When asked if it was at all
possible that these aliens could have developed many technological
advances in that time that scientists on Earth may struggle to
understand, including advanced weapons systems and transportation,
Professor Grenfell could offer no comment.
